Controlling the Auscat is simple.
Unlike other mini loaders, the design of
the Auscat controls are original and in our opinion safer than
the standard configuration you may find elsewhere. If you decide to
come down and test drive a unit, you'll be able to see first
hand why this control configuration is so unique
and improved from other mini loaders.
The basics of driving an Auscat are pretty straight forward.
You do not need to sit
any kind of course to
safely control one
of these units.
But practice and experience with skid steer loaders
is always helpful.
The levers in the photo below control all facets of the mini loader.
It only takes a few minutes to get the hang of this unit.
Driver's visual field -

The drive system on a skid steer loader has no transmission. Instead
skid steer loaders use hydraulic motors and pumps to power the wheels.
With skid steering each side, the Auscat's wheels are powered by
two separate hydraulic motors (one on each side).
Each motor has a sprocket that connects to two chains, one chain drives
the front wheel, the other chain drives the back wheel. This is repeated
on both sides.
Using two chains on either side means that in the extremely rare event
a chain snapped, the machine can still be driven. We use heavy duty chain and to date have never had a chain snap.
The expensive hydrostatic systems on other brand machines
(don't use chains)
but four hydraulic drive motors. These are extremely expensive to replace should something go wrong.
There is no direct steering mechanism on skid steer loaders,
instead, as the name suggests,
both wheels on one side lock up to allow "skid steering".
We use a diesel engine because they are more efficient than petrol driven engines. Though we can do petrol if this is essential. You'll notice
mine sites only use diesel engines.
With diesel savings can add up to big dollars for you.
We have designed this unit so that the engine is extremely
accessible. Below you can see the engine
with the bonnet down
and right side panel removed.
In the next photo we see the left side panel removed.

With complete engine access, any servicing is quick and easy.
But
of course, we are more than happy to service this unit
for you.
